Apple (AAPL) said it will introduce additional controls for Full Disk Access in macOS so users can grant apps that level of access only through very explicit action, citing risks that will grow as AI agents become more capable and autonomous.
The company said in a developer update Friday that some developers are using the feature in ways that could put users at risk, exposing files, mail, messages and browsing history without users' full understanding.
Apple said Full Disk Access largely sidesteps the privacy controls built into its developer APIs and was designed to let backup apps function properly on the Mac.
It did not say when the new controls will take effect.
