Rockefeller Recruits $1 Billion Financial Advisor Team from Truist

Rockefeller Capital Management has recruited a five-person financial advisor team from Truist Advisory Services, where it oversaw about $1 billion in client assets. The Piedmont Wealth Partners team joined Rockefeller on Wednesday, according to registration records.

Truist declined to comment on the departure.

Piedmont, based in Charlotte, N.C., includes three advisors and two support staffers. The practice caters to high- and ultrahigh-net-worth clients. The move continues Rockefeller's aggressive recruiting campaign that has drawn dozens of advisor teams in recent years.

Piedmont advisor Gavin Shuck is a 29-year industry veteran who first registered as a broker in 1997 with PaineWebber, according to the online database BrokerCheck. After a brief stint at First Union Brokerage Services he joined Wells Fargo as a broker in 2000 and registered as an investment advisor with the firm in 2001. He worked briefly at Scott & Stringfellow before joining BB&T in 2013. BB&T merged with SunTrust in 2019, and the combined entity adopted the Trust brand.

Paul Irving, another of Piedmont's advisors, has had a 28-year career as a broker. Except for his start at American Express Financial Advisors and the IDS Life Insurance Company, his career followed the same path as Shuck.

Advisor Brett Schmidt entered the industry in 2012 as a broker and advisor with BB&T.

Irving and Schmidt both hold the Certified Financial Planner credential. All three advisors are now managing directors with Rockefeller.

The team also includes support staffers Ben Beeson and Nichole McKeon.

Rockefeller sprang from the family office of oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller. The firm says it managed $237 billion in client assets as of Aug. 31.
