Consumer stocks were higher late Friday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) up 0.3% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) rising 1.2%.
In corporate news, Ford Motor (F) said Friday that its Q3 US vehicle sales declined year over year, reflecting the planned phase-out of two of its sport utility vehicles as the automaker faced a supplier disruption affecting F-150 production. Its shares were down 1.1%.
