Agility Robotics and Fort Robotics are collaborating to further develop the safety infrastructure of Agility's humanoid robot.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding outlining a partnership to further advance the infrastructure of Digit 5, a robot designed for cooperative safe work at scale.

Fort and Agility have already worked together for multiple years to develop a three-part safety architecture for robots with external safety systems.

In August, Fort filed to go public via a special-purpose acquisition. It was founded in 2018 to provide safety solutions for the robotics industry, and is backed by investors including Mark Cuban and Prologis.

The new agreement will also establish a broader framework for Agility and Fort to work together in the future as Digit 5 begins deployment and scales into more complex commercial environments.

The longer-term collaboration will include joint hardware development, solutions engineering, regulatory compliance and deployment support.

Digit 5 will be Agility's first humanoid robot engineered for cooperatively safe work and will be built on a safety architecture spanning safe human detection, safety cues and safe motion control.

Agility has embedded Fort's technology in several past versions of Digit. Earlier this year, the companies worked together to deliver the pendant sled, a holder for Digit's tablet that integrates emergency stop and device functionality.
